Awake or asleep? It’s your choice.

At Apex Dental, you can choose your level of comfort. For mild anxiety, nitrous oxide or oral sedatives help you stay calm while remaining awake and in control. For deeper relaxation, IV sedation offers a moderate level where you stay responsive but typically won’t remember the procedure.

MILD SEDATION

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous Oxide is a very safe and effective form of light or mild sedation. It is inhaled and the effects start within a few seconds. It can be adjusted quickly if a patient is too light or too deep. Its effects are very quickly reversible so, after a few minutes without the gas, it is safe to drive yourself home.

Nitrous oxide light sedation makes many people feel happy and warm. It causes a lot of people to laugh, so it is often called laughing gas. It is great for a person who is somewhat nervous at the dentist.

MODERATE SEDATION

IV Sedation

Sometimes referred to as twilight sleep, IV sedation allows you to rest comfortably during your procedure with little to no memory of your dental treatment.

Sedation is a great option for those who are fearful or anxious about dental treatment, those who have had a previous bad experience at the dentist, those with a strong gag reflex, those who have a difficult time getting numb, those who don’t like shots in their mouth, and those who simply want the ultimate experience in comfort at the dentist.

Due to the extensive training and expertise required, we are one of a small number of dental clinics in Iowa that provide IV sedation. As such, we have helped a number of fearful people receive the dental care they need, in the relaxing atmosphere they require. Sedation via IV drugs is the most effective and safest form of sedation in dentistry. Throughout the duration of your treatment, your vitals are monitored by a trained professional. We can easily and quickly adjust your sedation as needed as your treatment is performed. Since the effects of IV sedation can linger for several hours, you will need to have someone to drive you home.

Dr. Brad has been licensed in IV sedation by the Iowa Dental Board for many years. He maintains membership in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
