We can’t stress enough the importance of nutrient-dense foods in promoting oral and overall health. Our modern industrial food systems bring a lot of food to a lot of places, but it’s important that we understand that it comes with a price. Industrial ag production of fruits/grains/vegetables employs many synthetic chemicals to grow these foods in soil that is void of nutrients and microorganisms, which means a higher toxic burden and a lower nutrient profile to replenish our bodies. Additionally, while transport systems are great for getting out-of-season and out-of-region foods to our grocery store shelves at all times, the process of harvesting these items too early to transport great distances also reduces the nutrient value of these fruits and vegetables. • Iowa Food Cooperative is a dedicated local crew that connects Iowa farmers and food producers to central Iowa consumers who desire the best local foods. This is your one-stop shop for local fruits, vegetables, honey, meat, dairy, landscaping and garden plant starts, baked goods, Kombucha, and so much more. They offer pick up at their storefront and a few other local pickup points, and also offer delivery.
• Prudent Produce is another central Iowa business that connects local consumers with locally raised food. They deliver all around the Des Moines metro.
• Kalona SuperNatural is a group of Iowa farmers bringing DELICIOUS and minimally processed pasture-raised dairy products to many grocery store shelves throughout Iowa and other areas. Dr. Mindy was excited to even find their products on the shelves of Whole Foods in Colorado!
