Dr. Sommer Lortz, DDS
Dr. Sommer Lortz has known she wanted to be a dentist since second grade, when she realized she genuinely loved going to the dentist and was fascinated by how everything worked. That early curiosity never faded. It simply grew into a calling. Raised in Grimes, Iowa, and a proud graduate of Dallas Center Grimes High School, Dr. Sommer earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Iowa State University before completing her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
During her training, Dr. Sommer gained extensive hands-on experience treating emergency dental cases, caring for patients with complex medical histories and special needs, and serving the community through outreach programs focused on education and access to care. She was actively involved in leadership and professional organizations, including Women in Dentistry and the Periodontics-Prosthodontics-Academy of Osseointegration Study Club, where she served as secretary. She also spent time as a registered dental assistant, further strengthening her clinical skills and patient-centered approach.
Dr. Sommer specializes in restorative dentistry and is passionate about creating a calm, welcoming environment where patients feel comfortable and understood. She loves building relationships, solving problems, and helping patients gain confidence in their smiles and their oral health.
Outside the office, Dr. Sommer enjoys spending time with her husband, Michael, and their cocker spaniel, Daphne. Whether she is running, playing pickleball, or relaxing on the patio with family and friends, she loves being outdoors and soaking up fresh air whenever she can.
