How Botox Works and What to Expect

Botox is the purified form of Botulinum Toxin A that was developed to reduce movement of certain facial muscles creating a smoother appearance to the skin and/or offering facial pain relief. BOTOX can address many areas, including horizontal lines in the forehead, lines between the eyebrows, lines around the lips, a dimpled chin, lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), and overactive clenching/grinding muscles which lead to pain and a more “square” appearance of the face. The treatment is performed by Dr. Chris Gipple at our practice in West Des Moines. Botox treatment is a quick procedure, and we use only the smallest, most comfortable needles for the injections. Effects can be realized in just 48-72 hours, with full treatment effects seen in only 2 weeks. We will schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks after treatment to assess your results. How to Prepare for Botox

You must be over 18 to receive injections. We cannot treat patients who are pregnant or nursing. We recommend not taking any blood thinners or drinking alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment as this can promote bruising. Neurotoxins may not be right for you if you’ve had recent surgical changes to your face, you have very weak muscles in the treatment area, you have a neurological disorder that affects the nerves & muscles in your face, or if you have an active infection in the desired treatment area.
