Routine Preventive Care

Routine visits to ensure your teeth and gums are well maintained.

Regular ongoing care is one of the cornerstones of preventive dentistry. Routine appointments with our dental hygienists will ensure your teeth and gums are well maintained.

We recommend dental checkups twice a year for patients with good oral health. Your checkup will give us an opportunity to update your dental records and reassess your oral health. If issues arise, it is always best to catch them early. If caught early enough, some dental issues can be reversed and not require treatment. When things pass the point of reversal, we aim to catch and treat early, in order to treat as conservatively as possible.

What you can expect at your routine checkups:

  • Your fantastically knowledgeable dental hygienist will perform a periodontal assessment to evaluate the health of your gum tissue and bone surrounding your teeth.
  • Every routine checkup involves an oral cancer screening.
  • Digital xrays will be taken, as indicated, to assess the health of the the teeth, roots, and surrounding bone. You can rest assured that radiation exposure from digital dental xrays is minimal, up to 90% less than exposure from traditional film xrays.
  • Your hygienist will also take intraoral photos of any areas of concern, which will be used to aid in your understanding of the condition, as well as to update your records.
  • In nearly all cases, a routine cleaning will be performed by your rockstar hygienist at your checkup visit.
  • A thorough clinical and xray evaluation will be completed by one of our amazing dentists. Any findings will be discussed with you, in order to assure your understanding.
  • If treatment is necessary, options will be discussed with you and a treatment plan will be prepared for you, along with an estimate of your out of pocket cost that will be reviewed with you by our front office team following your appointment.
  • Also, don’t be surprised if we ask you some questions pertaining to your sleep and breathing. With the intimate relationship between your airway and your oral cavity, we find it very important to screen for any issues, and to direct you to the appropriate specialist if indicated.
